Day 12 – a well earned rest day!

After a good night’s sleep by all the crew and a later breakfast than usual, kids played on the beach and adults in the sauna. We trekked into Oulu for lunch (Thanks to Colin for being a great tour guide!) We had fried sprats and potatoes for lunch, obligatory selfies with the Toripollisi, Bobby, and…

Pori to Nallikari, Day 11.

Civilised camp site tonight, at Nallikari, near Oulu. Shout out to the Finnish Land Rover group who have been so full of advice and information for us.

Day 10 Tallinn to Pori.

Welcome to Finland.  Tonight’s camp is close to a UNESCO world heritage site, so naturally, we were very careful about our footprint.

Day 9 Lithuania through Latvia and Estonia.

Wow, what a beautiful country Lithuania is! The sun shone all the way over our trip North as we came through the country. As we headed through Latvia, we unfortunately didn’t have so much time to explore as we had a ferry to catch at Tallin. Our pass through Estonia was peaceful and leisurely even…

Day 8, Poland to Lithuania.

Well, it’s not very Baltic in the Baltic states! Very hot and humid as we passed into another time zone.  Lithuania is very beautiful and the people so hospitable but you can see the results of former Soviet rule which is a real shame. Camping Marijampolé is gorgeous, kids have had a whale of time…

Poznań to Olszytn, day 7

Stunning breakfast by the lake. After lunch we travelled further north for around 150 miles before hitting a camper van spot by great swimming facilities in Dobre Miasto.

Day 6, Dresden to Poznań

One of the strangest sights we have come across as we traverse countries  are the old border control buildings. Passing into Poland loomed this huge concrete Soviet building. We camped in the forest north of Poznań, careful driving on the forest tracks to keep our presence at a minimum. We weren’t keen to go too…

Day 5 Winter is Coming

We escaped from Colditz, all in tact. What a beautiful town, gorgeous cobblestoned streets, beautiful Saxon architecture. The escape museum offered an interesting respite from the road, the inventiveness of the prisoners was mind blowing. Some melancholy moments too, as we went through a memorial to the mental health patients “euthanised” by the Nazis at…

Day 4 Winter is Coming Tour

A rainy start in the beautiful town of Habitschwald was greatly improved by a gorgeous bakery specialising in walnut pastries.   Some amazing scenery over lower Saxony, with a cute lunch stop lakeside, watching storks and wading birds feeding. Camp tonight is in Schonback forest, near Schloss Colditz where we will visit tomorrow.

Winter is coming Day 3

A rainy morning in Eindhoven, and we were on our way to Germany. After a good breakfast we managed to navigate through horrendous roadworks in Eindhoven city centre, before opening out into gorgeous countryside. Another coffee stop in Ginderich,  before heading on to Hamm for a quick lunch break. Stunning views of castles and stately homes…
